At a Glance

After being drafted by the Eagles, Dick Vermeil gave Rob and his teammates a Sunday off during training camp. Rob decided to head to church and it was there he met a nice couple who befriended the lonely rookie. As it turned out that couple would end up being his mother and father-in-law. They introduced Rob to their daughter, and after Rob went to play for the USFL team in Chicago , he and Susan exchanged letters. As their relationship began to grow, Rob invited Susan to spend a week with him at his parent's house in Ohio . Things went so well that when he drove her back to Philadelphia , he stayed a week at her parent's house. At the end of that week they became engaged and 3 months later they were married in the same church Rob had visited during training camp. It was a beautiful example of love inside the faith community.

When Rob's first son Kelby was born, Rob didn't have to fall in love with him - it was automatic. He notes how amazing it is when a husband and wife come together how that love overflows into a new life. Rob and Susan didn't cease to marvel at this miracle with their following children - Kelley and Kent. That's not to say raising children is always a walk in the park. Rob shares being a father is the greatest challenge in his life and he can't plan for every contingency. But through faith, prayer and being a role model, Rob trusts that his kids will turn out right. "It's unbelievable," Rob notes, "how much pressure kids face today. It's so important that they choose the right friends and resist what this world promotes. "

Rob loves coaching his kids' teams, fishing and attending church. When he and Susan can get away, they're big bed and breakfast fans. But home is where their heart truly is. Just ask them.
