Advice For Married Couples: Persevere

My wife, Lauren, and I have been married for 29 years now. Here’s a picture from our wedding day. Most of it has been smooth sailing but certainly not all of it. There are things that come up in all marriages. The main advice I would give a couple who is walking through difficulty is to make sure you’re committed to persevering and working through anything that happens. It’s very easy in this day and age, when you have a little problem to say that you and your spouse are not compatible and that it’s over. That’s the easy way out and I don’t think that’s the Lord’s way. In anything, whether it’s a marriage, a football season or a business career – it’s not all smooth sailing. When you hit those rough patches, fighting through it, being determined and working together – that’s what will keep your marriage going. The couples who do this come out of a rough season and their marriage is better than ever. So, that would be my advice – make sure you’re committed to work through anything that comes up.
