London 2012: My First Day at the Olympics

Great atmosphere at the beach volleyball final last night! China and Brazil played for the bronze medal before an all USA final for gold. There was plenty of red, white, and blue in the stands as Misty and Kerri got their third consecutive gold.

This was the scene walking to last night’s Beach Volleyball finals. London is much like New York—huge and with a lot of history. It’s pretty electric with so many people from all over the world here this week. Eight hour time difference from the West Coast is a challenge, but so far we are enjoying it tremendously.

We are touring London and I just found out that Big Ben is actually the bell on what’s known as the Clock Tower. The tower is being renamed the Queen’s Tower in honor of the Queen’s 60th anniversary of rule.

We are going into the area where the British government convenes during World War II. It is 11 feet underground and reinforced to withstand bombing. Everything was left as it was when the war ended. Unbelievable history!

This is Winston Churchill’s bedroom as it was in 1940 underground in the war rooms.
