Going to the Red Zone

I am in Dallas today to tape Red Zone 09, a production that will be shown in movie theaters around the country Tuesday night. I’m really excited about this project. We have a variety of outstanding football players and coaches who will talk about ways to improve as a player and grow as a person. Red Zone will give high school football players a chance to see what some of the best people in our business have to say about success in football and in life.

While this show is aimed at young athletes, I think any athlete-or anyone who deals with young athletes-would benefit from seeing it.  We’ll have tips from Pro Bowl players like Peyton Manning, Adam Vinatieri and Bob Sanders; we’ll also deal with issues like strength and conditioning, supplements and academics. NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin will talk about handling peer pressure.  USC coach Pete Carroll will talk about NCAA recruiting rules and what college coaches are looking for in the high school players they recruit. Former NFL player and current high school coach Joe Ehrmann will talk about what it takes to be a good teammate and a good man. So there’s something for everyone, including parents and coaches.

I agreed to host the show because I think it has the right focus. We’ll have plenty of things that will help players improve but we also want to let them know that it’s not just their football that’s important; the decisions they make off the field-with their schoolwork, with their friends, and with their lifestyles-will have a huge impact on how they develop as people and where they go in life.

So as we’re putting the finishing touches on this show, I’m really fired up and hoping a lot of people will get out to see it. It’s being shown one night only, Tuesday August 25th, at almost 500 movie theaters around the country. You can go to Redzonelive.com to find the one nearest you.
