Every once in a while, it seems like we get into a rut in our family—a rut of very little activity. Or, we wind up doing the same things over and over again. We can all use a little inspiration at times like this.
How about a simple (but really fun) scavenger hunt for kids? It’s something you can do inside or outside, and it doesn’t require many supplies. Scavenger hunts are excellent ideas for some quality family time. Grab the kids, follow these steps, and get hunting!
1. Gather your materials.
Grab paper and pencils and head outside. For older kids, use smartphones.
2. Set up the hunt.
Write the letters of the alphabet on each person’s paper and set a timer for at least 15 minutes.
3. Hunt!
Start the clock, spread out, and start hunting for objects that begin with each letter of the alphabet. For older kids, make them find items in alphabetical order.
4. Log your treasures.
If you are using paper, document what you found and where you found it. If you are using phones, snap a picture. Once the timer goes off, meet up and see who found the most items.
5. Add some twists.
Do it again and make it more challenging. For example, you could make a rule that all items must be green. On rainy days, these hunt be done indoors! Want to make it super tough? Limit the hunting to just one room.
Sound off: What is another way to create a fun scavenger hunt for your kids?
Huddle up with your kids and ask, “What is one thing you can’t wait to get outside and do?”
