What Does Miracle Mean to Me?

What does miracle mean to me? A miracle is something that we can’t explain with reason, logic, or science. I look up at the sun every day. It comes up at the same time and never fails. To me, that is miraculous because the only explanation is God’s hand.

Another example that is more close to home involves my 15-year-old son, Jordan. He has a rare disease called congenital insensitivity to pain. When he was diagnosed around 3 months old, the doctors told us that his chance of living past 8 or 9 years old wasn’t very good. He is 15 now and doing great in regular high school. He has had a bunch of surgeries. And he has recently started walking again for the first time in 18 months after a really, really tough surgery.

To me that is miraculous. We have a tremendous doctor, but the one that is putting this together, allowing Jordan to walk, is the Lord. There is no doubt in my mind and it has impacted me. When I see how the body is put together and the little gene that he is missing, in order to have everything function well is a miracle in itself. All the things we take for granted: to breathe, to see, to walk.

Seeing my son grow up and develop has made me appreciate the miraculous things I see every day in everyone else.

Check out the movie Miracles from Heaven, in theaters this Wednesday, March 16.
