4 Reasons to Involve Your Children in Creative Arts

“Everybody has a creative potential and from the moment you can express this creative potential, you can start changing the world.” – Paulo Coelho

We all want a full, well-rounded education for our children. The academic subjects are covered by the schools and athletic pursuits are to be found readily. But many children were gifted with creativity that needs to be expressed in different ways. Creative arts are an equally important cornerstone of a child’s education. Here are 4 key reasons to involve your children in creative arts:

1. Builds Confidence.

As a child practices the piano, or painting, or a flute or whatever choice they have made, they will become more skilled each time they pick it up. This provides confidence without the pressure of competition.

2. Improves Memory.

Music in particular involves a lot of memorization. Maestro Eduardo Marturet with the Miami Symphony Orchestra states, “Research has shown that participation in music at an early age can help improve a child’s learning ability and memory by stimulating different patterns of brain development.”

3. Teaches Patience.

While most of the activities our children get exposed to revolve around instant gratification, the arts teach patience as the virtue that it is. Learning is a step-by-step process, and though we get eager to jump ahead, art requires each step be mastered before moving to the next.

4. Breeds Discipline.

Discipline is required for success in school and life. The arts provide a breeding ground for discipline to grow in our children. Success in arts is the same as it is in life—it requires disciplined practice.

If you could play a musical instrument, which one would you choose?
