Water Wars I

I couldn’t have been more than three. My older sister doesn’t deny doing it; in fact she is still proud. Our mom and dad saw what was happening, but didn’t stop it. Instead, they filmed it so that we could laugh about it for the rest of our lives.

It was a hot summer day and I was curious about the hose that was filling the baby pool. When I picked it up the water stopped coming. Wondering where the water went I looked into the hose. A rush of water hit me in the face. This happened multiple times before the camera panned to my sister bending the hose to control the flow. There’s nothing like fun with water in the summer.

Here are 3 water games to provide laughter and fun.

1. Alka-Seltzer Shootout.

Have two people face each other. Put an Alka-Seltzer tab on their foreheads and secure with rubber bands. Arm them with water guns. They must remain still. At the count of 3, have them start firing. Whoever dissolves the other persons Alka-Seltzer tablet first is the winner. Use goggles to protect the eyes.

2. Water Balloon Over the Head.

Have your kids kneel in a line. Announce a category such as “colors.” They have to shout out different colors while you hold a water balloon and a needle over their head. If they repeat something that has already been said, hesitate, or say “um,” the water balloon gets popped. Repeat multiple rounds using different categories—states, candy, movies, etc.

3. Water Balloon Shave.

Take a water balloon and cover it in shaving cream. Have one kid sit under it while another one attempts to shave the entire balloon without popping it. Then have them switch places and use a new balloon. Determine whether or not they are responsible enough to use a razor. If not, then you can be the shaver. Use a stopwatch to determine the fastest. With four or more, have the shavers race one another.

Huddle up with your kids and choose one water wars game to play together.
