Where Have all of the Role Models Gone?

There definitely has been a shift in our country, and good role models are becoming short in supply. I think it comes back to the family. You can go to school and get a lot of information on how to be successful, how to climb the ladder, or how to really achieve and go forward, but you learn from the people you are around and the people you watch, especially your dad.

You are your children’s first role model.  What they see in your home is what they will likely become. As a child, you learn what it is like to be a man, what it means to have integrity, and what the important things are. I learned that from my father long before I learned how to be a good football coach or how to be a business person in college.

So, I think it really stretches back to what we see at home, and we have to do a better job of teaching our children what’s important in life—that integrity is critical and is just as important, if not more, as being successful.
