How are you helping your kids deal with peer pressure? Here’s my take…
What’s your take?
I totally agree with you! Especially on the point that students can turn peer pressure on its head and do something to influence many others in a positive way. As a youth pastor to middle school students, my heart’s desire is to see the positive influence of Jesus Christ and His love become the positive peer influence.
It is so wonderful to be able to empower our children so they don’t feel the need to succumb to negative peer pressure. I believe the key is to empower kids with good sense of self and resilience so they know who they are and what they believe in and they are not afraid to act on it. Here’s a short article on what parents can do to build self esteem and resilience at home http://childrendevelopment.org/children-development/skills-for-life-%E2%80%93-self-esteem-and-resilience
When you lived in INDY, your son went to school my son Jordan at Park Tudor. You picked him up a couple of times to take him to your church and to your house. My youngest son was bullied and sexually assualted at Carmel High School while on the basketball team. I would like to know your thoughts on this wave of kids being bullied in our schools and it seems that school administrators seem to be sticking there heads in the ground like its not happening. Along with prosecutors who seem to be unwilling to defend 14 year olds from individuals that are ked by 19 to 20 year olds who attack freshmen in packs. Please read up on the story Carmel Basketball assualt. I would be interested in your take on this. And please remember its not just my son, many of these attacks have contributed to kids commiting suicide.
