Jay knows what it's like to perform under pressure. What else could you expect from one of the NFL's premier tight ends? Catching 15 touchdown passes over the past three seasons between defensive tackles takes skill and courage. But so does being a husband and a father. Jay considers his wife Cara to truly be a blessing from God. They met in high school and have been sweethearts ever since. Jays says that they are "...best friends. We have great times together and can also tackle problems together because the center point of our marriage is faith." Cara is a great athlete herself - having been All State in volleyball and swimming while she was in high school. Jay credits Cara as "...a truly wonderful wife and mother." Jay and Cara are the immensely proud parents of their daughter Sophia Grace and their son Allen Jay III. Becoming a father has changed some of Jay's perspectives. He is now especially aware of how children will emulate and imitate their parents - both their good traits and their bad ones. Jay also says: "I now understand the kind of unconditional love my parents have for me. Growing up I knew they loved me, but now having my own child has shed a new light on the kind of love my folks showed me. I have a new-found respect for them." Jay says for fathers to be better dads, they must understand the kind of love their heavenly Father has for them and to acknowledge and embrace the accountability and responsibility dads have to be examples to their children. And while Jay continues to cradle game-winning touchdown passes, the most important use of his hands are to hold and hug his wife and kids.
